Foxtrot announces closures of all locations

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin is losing all four of its Foxtrot cafes as the Chicago-based company announced Tuesday it’s shutting down operations.

Foxtrot is a cafe/marketplace plus coffee shop concept that had 33 locations in the Austin, Dallas, Chicago and Washington D.C. areas. It recently merged with Dom’s Kitchen & Market, also Chicago-based, which will be closing its two locations as well.

There were four locations spread across Austin:
4818 Burnet Road
2270 Guadalupe Street
301 West Second Street
1804 South First Street

The Guadalupe Street location was already shuttered by the time a KXAN employee walked by at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. The company’s website also showed a “404 Not Found” error Tuesday.

Foxtrot announced the closure on X Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.

“It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you of a difficult decision we have had to make. After much consideration and evaluation, we regret to announce that Foxtrot and Dom’s Kitchen & Market will be closing their doors starting on April 23, 2024.”

The company also said it “explored many avenues to continue the business, but found no viable option despite good faith and exhaustive efforts.”

The Dom’s website listed April 23 as the date that all operations would end, including store operations, delivery capabilities, all customer-facing operations, and the Foxtrot and Dom’s apps.

An employee at one of the Austin Foxtrot locations said employees received an email late Tuesday morning with the same verbiage as the public announcement, as well as a link to an FAQ about next steps and final pay.
