Popular home goods retailer files for bankruptcy, announces store closures

Nationwide home goods retailer At Home has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and will close 26 “underperforming” stores across the country, the company announced Monday.

The Coppell, Texas-based chain cited “the rapidly changing tariff landscape, persistent macroeconomic headwinds, and internal pressures” in its filing. The closures stretch from California to New York.

“These newly imposed tariffs and the uncertainty of ongoing U.S. trade negotiations intensified the financial pressure on the company,” At Home noted, referring to President Donald Trump’s broader tariff war with major trading partners.

It also cited lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the shift in consumer preferences away from brick-and-mortar stores toward online shopping for home furniture and decor.
