Split-ticket voters chose ‘movie star’ candidates: Geraldo Rivera
(NewsNation) — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to Instagram asking voters to explain their decision to support both her and Donald Trump‘s reelection bids.
It’s a split-ticket that NewsNation correspondent-at-large Geraldo Rivera believes was the product of each politician’s respective charisma.
“She, like Trump, is a movie star. Like Reagan was, like JFK was, like Obama was the first term, like Schwarzenegger was his first term running for governor of California. They are movie stars,” Rivera said.
Though the political mainstay said there are “macro” reasons the Democrats lost this election — including the Republican Party’s focus on trans issues and immigration — some of the left’s current turmoil is due to Trump’s star power.
“Trump is bigger than Elvis. Trump is the biggest movie star in the world right now, and I think that anyone who competes with him is going to be overwhelmed by that personality of his. Larger than life, vastly larger than life,” Rivera told “Dan Abrams Live.”
“I think that you know, with all due respect to Kamala Harris, she was not charismatic,” he added. “She was very good at times, but in a traditional political boundary. She wasn’t, you know, you couldn’t cast her to star on Broadway.”
