Donald Trump’s fate is main issue in 2024 election: Donaldson
(NewsNation) — Four years after Donald Trump mounted numerous legal challenges to his loss to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election, the former president could again refuse to accept defeat if he loses to Vice President Kamala Harris, a former ABC News anchor told NewsNation.
Sam Donaldson said Tuesday night that this year’s election is about Trump’s fate and that he expects history to repeat itself should Harris win the race for the White House.
“Yes, it’s about the economy … it’s about abortion, it’s about lots of things,” Donaldson said. “But the issue is Donald J. Trump — his fate. That’s what’s on the line today, and that’s what’s motivating people on both sides of this great divide.”
He added: “You either love him or you hate him for the same reasons. People who love him know exactly who he is. People who hate him think they know exactly who he is.”
Donaldson said that Trump wants to be someone that everyone pays attention to. However, the former ABC News personality said that should Trump lose to Harris, he expects that the nation could see legal challenges that took place after the 2020 election.
“No matter who wins – after all the votes have been counted, certified – we’ll go through a period if Mr. Trump, President Trump comes up short -he’ll say it has been stolen again, there will be court suits again.”
