Trader Joe’s salad sold in 18 states recalled over packaging mishap

(WHTM/NEXSTAR) — Trader Joe’s is recalling a “limited” number of pre-made salads in 18 states over an undeclared allergen, the company announced this week.

The issue, which affects Trader Joe’s Sesame Miso Salad with Salmon, stems from a mistake during packaging, according to Trader Joe’s.

“Certain packages … may contain an undeclared allergen (milk) because 500 units of the salad were mistakenly packaged with a sealed packet of parmesan cheese crumbles instead of a packet of crispy onions,” reads a recall alert posted to the company’s website.

The salads were sold at Trader Joe’s locations in the following states: Alabama, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

A representative for Trader Joe’s confirmed to Nexstar that only the salads sold in the above states were affected by the recall, despite the item being carried at all Trader Joe’s locations.

Concerned consumers can identify the product by the UPC number (00773164) and use-by dates (April 28, 2025, or April 29, 2025) printed on the packaging.

Those who purchased the recalled salads are urged to throw them away or return them to Trader Joe’s for a full refund.

Anyone with additional questions can contact Trader Joe’s customer relations at (626) 599-3817 or submit a message via the company’s product feedback portal. An alert from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) says customers can also reach out to Taylor Fresh Foods, the Illinois-based company that produced the salads, by calling (855) 455-0098.
