The net worth of richest Congress members

(NewsNation) — United States elected officials represent Americans across all socioeconomic classes, despite some Congress members earning nearly triple the average American’s income.

Members of the United States House of Representatives and Senate are held to the Ethics in Government Act, which requires some federally elected officials to file a disclosure statement annually.

That statement details their investments, assets and business interests — and can give valuable insight into their net worth. So, who are the richest members of the U.S. Congress?

Richest members of Congress

According to a government pay record, representatives and senators bank $174,000 per annum as of 2025. That’s almost three times the average United States income in 2024 of around $63,600, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

But salary isn’t all that matters. Plenty of well-off lawmakers owe their fortune to investments made long before they took office.

Here are Congress’ wealthiest members, as compiled by hedge fund Quiver Quantitative‘s live portfolio tracker.

Rick Scott’s net worth

Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., arrives for the weekly Senate Republican policy luncheon on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.

Multiple outlets and projection tools place Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., as the richest member of Congress. The exact extent of his wealth is widely contested and frequently changing. Quiver Quantitative places Scott’s net worth at $549.91 million, with Investopedia agreeing with the company’s tracker.

However, back in June 2024, Finbold reported that his assets range from about $271 million to $808 million, according to the 2023 financial disclosure report. Finbold claimed that Scott has no liabilities, so his net worth would be somewhere between those two numbers.

The Republican senator was previously the governor of Florida between 2011 and 2019. His private sector gains come from co-founding both HCA Healthcare in 1988 and Solantic in 2001. During his time as HCA’s chief executive, the company was convicted of 14 felonies for defrauding Medicare, Medicaid and federal programs.

The company’s board of directors forced Scott to resign in 1997, though Britannica reports he received “a generous retirement package consisting of approximately $10 million in cash and $300 million in company stock.”

Nancy Pelosi’s net worth

Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., applauds during the 2024 Democratic National Convention at the United Center in Chicago, Ill., on Monday, August 19, 2024.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has an estimated net worth of $267.6 million based on her holdings in companies like Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Google and Netflix, according to Quiver Quantitative. As of 2023, she has household assets that are worth at least more than $92 million, according to PolitiFact.

One post on X made in February stated that “Rep. Nancy Pelosi has a $223,000 salary and a $202 million net worth.” However, PolitiFact pointed out that Pelosi’s salary is $174,000, like all other Congress members except the leadership. PolitiFact rated this claim, which called out the net worth of other Congress members, as “mostly false.”

Pelosi is a political powerhouse who served as the first female speaker of the House and has been in office since 1987.

Vern Buchanan’s net worth

Representative Vern Buchanan, a Republican from Florida, during a House Ways and Means Committee business meeting in Washington, DC, US, on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022.

Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., is also a businessman — and it’s earned him a projected net worth of $249.36 million.

Over the decades, Buchanan’s business endeavors include car dealerships, a multimillion LLC named “Aircraft Holding & Leasing” and printing company Speedy Printing. According to Quiver Quantitative, he has $70.3 million in real property holdings.

According to Business Insider reporting from 2021, Buchanan’s financial filings revealed multiple liabilities on his record, including loans for a plane and a yacht for the LLC.

Mark Warner’s net worth

Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., addresses reporters following the weekly policy luncheon on Tuesday, December 5, 2023.

Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., owes his estimated $247.36 million net worth to Columbia Capitol, a venture capital firm he founded after graduating from Harvard Law. The firm, under his leadership, has successfully invested in telecommunications companies like XM Satellite Radio and Nextel Communications, according to Investopedia.

Warner came from a middle-class Midwestern family, making him one of the only top-earning lawmakers on this list who didn’t come from an already wealthy background.

As of 2018, Open Secrets had Warner’s net worth as around $214 million.

Darrell Issa’s net worth

Subcommittee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., speaks during the House Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet hearing on June 26, 2024 in Washington, DC.

Longtime lawmaker Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., is worth a whopping $234.68 million. Most of his fortune comes from his time as CEO of Directed Electronics, known for its car alarm system named Steal Stopper.

Business Insider reports his one liability, as of 2021, was a margin account holding him liable for more than $50 million. In that same article, the outlet estimated his worth closer to $115.85 million.

Issa served in Congress for 18 years before a brief stint as Trump’s nominee for U.S. Trade and Development Agency leader. He went back to lawmaking in 2021 following Trump’s 2020 loss.

Daniel Goldman’s net worth

Rep. Daniel Goldman, D-N.Y., speaks at a press conference at the Capitol on February 14, 2024 regarding the six year anniversary of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.

Rep. Daniel S. Goldman, D-N.Y., is following in his family’s financial footsteps, boasting an estimated $184.23 million net worth, according to Quiver Quantitative. Bloomberg reporting in 2022 placed him closer to $253 million.

It’s important to note that these figures don’t account for what he will one day inherit. The 48-year-old is an heir to Levi Strauss & Co., which was founded by his great-grandfather. Levi Strauss & Co., an internationally renowned clothing company known for its denim, has a market cap of $7.23 billion.

His great-great-grandfather also started a business: the Smart & Final grocery warehouse chain.

Goldman, a progressive Democrat, secured a portion of his fortune through his decade as assistant United States attorney in the Southern District of New York and other high-ranking legal positions in the Empire State. Notably, he served as lead counsel in Trump’s first impeachment trial.

Pete Ricketts’ net worth

Sen. Pete Ricketts, R-Neb., arrives for a Senate Republican Conference meeting Feb. 8, 2024, to discuss the way forward on a clean supplemental bill to fund Israel, the Indo-Pacific and Ukraine.

Sen. Pete Ricketts, 60, is the eldest son of billionaire business Joe Ricketts, who founded stockbroker TD Ameritrade. According to Nebraska Public Media reporting from 2024, he and his family have poured roughly $100 million into Republican federal campaigns since 2005.

Quiver Quantitative estimates that Ricketts is worth $173.49 million, citing investments in Eagle Football Holdings and Charles Schwab among others. He served as Nebraska’s 40th governor from 2015 to 2023 before joining the U.S. Senate later that year.

Suzan K. DelBene’s net worth

Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-Wash.), Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chair, speaks during the Democratic National Convention, Aug. 21, 2024, in Chicago.

Democratic Rep. Suzan K. DelBene from Washington is reported to have a net worth of $126.88 million. According to Quiver Quantitative, $26.5 million of her holdings are in mutual funds, while $18 million are in real property.

As of 2024, Finbold reported that DelBene’s net worth was $79.1 million. However, based on her 2023 financial disclosures, Finbold estimated it could be anywhere from $51.5 million to $196.5 million.

DelBene has served as the U.S. representative for Washington’s first congressional district since 2012.

Note: Illiquid assets like real estate and debts aren’t included in Quiver’s assessment — which tracks stocks and bonds — which could greatly change some of their wealth estimates. The estimates are compared to research from Family Office Networks and cross-referenced with reporting from Business Insider, Bloomberg and more. These totals are updated as of February 2025.
