Ford Museum will open display honoring Jimmy Carter’s life
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — After the death of former President Jimmy Carter, the Gerald R. Ford Museum in Grand Rapids is opening a new display to commemorate his life.
“Remembering President Jimmy Carter” will feature campaign buttons as well as historical photographs of Carter and Ford from the 1976 election through their friendship after the presidency, according to a release from the museum. The public can also sign memorial books inside the museum as well as the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library in Ann Arbor.
The displays will be open from Dec. 30 until the day of Carter’s burial, according to a news release from the museum.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of President Jimmy Carter. His legacy of humanitarianism and dedication to public service is an inspiration to us all,” wrote the director of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library & Museum, Brooke Clement, in the release. “Our museum and library mourn the loss of such a statesman and will celebrate his profound contributions with opportunities for the public to take part.”
Carter died Sunday in Plains, Georgia, according to the Carter Center. He turned 100 in October, making him the longest-lived president in United States history.
