Eva Longoria says she and family have moved out of ‘dystopian’ US

(The Hill) — Eva Longoria says she’s anxious and nervous for Americans who can’t “escape” their “dystopian country” following President-elect Donald Trump’s White House win.

“The shocking part is not that he won,” Longoria told Marie Claire in an interview for its November cover story conducted two days after Trump triumphed in the presidential race.

“It’s that a convicted criminal who spews so much hate could hold the highest office,” said Longoria, who campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris and spoke at the Democratic National Convention in August.

“I would like to think our fight continues,” the former “Desperate Housewives” star said. But, “If he keeps his promises,” she said of Trump, “it’s going to be a scary place.”

The “Flamin’ Hot” director, who was born in Texas, has long split her time, living in both Spain and Mexico, according to the publication.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Longoria said, the U.S.  “was changing” and the “vibe was different.”

“And then Covid happened, and it pushed it over the edge. Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to s— on California — it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now,” she said.

“I’m privileged,” Longoria, 49, said.

“I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”
