Bill O’Reilly predicts ‘free-fire zone’ for Trump agenda
(NewsNation) — Former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly predicted President-elect Donald Trump will face no Republican opposition in Congress now that he has GOP control of the House and Senate.
The NewsNation contributor called it a “unique time in history” that would give the former president a “free-fire zone” to implement his agenda.
O’Reilly said Monday on NewsNation’s “On Balance” that there won’t be “one Congressperson now that will be in dissent on the Republican side,” though he noted Democratic lawmakers likely wouldn’t support any Trump initiatives.
O’Reilly compared Trump’s potential second term to Grover Cleveland, the only other nonconsecutive president, but noted Cleveland faced strong congressional opposition while Trump would likely have a cooperative Republican majority.
O’Reilly advised Trump to focus on five or six “really solid bills that are almost unopposable,” including border security, immigration reform, tax cut extensions and legislation targeting sanctuary cities.
The political commentator suggested Trump could “stop the madness culturally” through carefully worded legislation that could withstand federal court challenges.
The NewsNation contributor also emphasized the importance of Cabinet selections, advocating for experienced advisers who will “speak their mind” while maintaining loyalty to Trump. He contrasted this with Jimmy Carter’s administration, which he said failed partly due to inexperienced “cronies.”
Trump has begun announcing Cabinet picks, including Elise Stefanik as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and Marco Rubio as secretary of state.
