Interim NYPD Commissioner Tom Donlon expected to resign: sources

Editor’s note: The story in the video player originally aired on Sept. 12.

NEW YORK (PIX11) – Interim NYPD Commissioner Tom Donlon is expected to resign roughly a month after being appointed to the position, sources said Thursday.

Donlon is expected to step down as soon as Friday, sources told PIX11 News.

Donlon, a former FBI official, was appointed interim NYPD commissioner following the resignation of Edward Caban in September.

Jessica Tisch, commissioner of the New York City Department of Sanitation, and Benjamin Tucker, former NYPD first deputy commissioner, are being eyed as possible replacements, according to sources.

Donlon had his homes searched by federal investigators just over a week after he started as interim NYPD commissioner.

“They took materials that came into my possession approximately 20 years ago and are unrelated to my work with the New York City Police Department,” Donlon said in a statement on Sept. 21.
