Microsoft reportedly set to make performance-based job cuts

(KRON) — Microsoft is reportedly planning to initiate performance-based job cuts across multiple departments. The news was first reported in Business Insider and later corroborated by CNBC.

According to CNBC, the cuts will impact less than 1% of the company’s employees. Microsoft, as of last year, had around 228,000 employees, so the job cuts would impact about 2,280 people company-wide.

“At Microsoft we focus on high-performance talent,” said a company spokesperson in an email cited by CNBC. “We are always working on helping people learn and grow. When people are not performing, we take the appropriate action.”

The performance-based job cuts are the latest in a series of layoffs at the tech giant. Last January, Microsoft cut 1,900 jobs in its gaming division. In early 2023, the company laid off 10,000 employees.
