Texas Republicans and Democrats spar in ‘Billboard War’
(NewsNation) — It started as a general plea for Democratic votes in a conservative area north of San Antonio, Texas. It’s become a viral sensation and a source of humor for people in both parties.
Kendall County Democratic Party Chair Laura Bray bought a billboard that simply said, “Vote Democratic.” Clint Voight saw the billboard near his ceramic shop and noticed that the second billboard on that tower was available. So, he rented it and put up the message: “Just Kidding. Vote Republican. MAGA.”
Bray then changed her billboard. That one showed a picture of the January 6, 2021, siege of the U.S. Capitol and the headline “Had enough?”
“We’ve gotten a lot of good coverage, and some donations from across the nation,” Bray told NewsNation’s “On Balance.”
“We did it just to have fun back, Voight said. “We’ve received a bunch of donations from across the country, too. It’s actually been a very positive thing. I’m glad that we can all get along, though, and show that both sides can get along,” he added.
Bray said, that for her part, the billboard “war” is over.
“We’ll stick with the ‘Had enough,’” she said.
Voight agreed, saying that, like Bray, he’s focused on the election and to “make sure that everybody keeps a straight head on, regardless of which way it goes.”
