‘Voters’ can choose Trump, Harris in Ohio bakery’s ‘cookie poll’

(NewsNation) — The political world isn’t usually very sweet — but one Ohio bakery is trying to change that with their cookie poll.

Cincinnati’s Busken Bakery sells cookies with both Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and Republican nominee Donald Trump‘s faces on them.

Dan Busken, president and CEO of Busken Bakery, Inc., said their “elections” actually started in 1982, when the NFL Bengals went to the Super Bowl. Busken’s father had the idea of doing a cookie poll to see who people thought would win the big game.

Where are Harris, Walz, Trump and Vance today?

Now, they started doing it for higher-stakes events — and have been surprisingly successful. The winner of the presidential cookie poll has gone on to win the White House in nine out of the last 10 elections. (Biden lost the last cookie poll, but ultimately was elected president.)

This year, the Trump cookie is outselling the Harris cookie (3,006 to 2,198). But no matter who’s leading it, Busken says the poll has been “wonderful” for business even during such a heated election season.

“We’ve always been Cincinnati’s bakery that’s just known for good, clean fun,” Busken said. “We try to keep it light-hearted and very neutral… We have some fun interactions with our customers coming in the store, very opinionated people and undecided folks as well.”

While Busken Bakery has four retail locations in Cincinnati people can purchase from, they’re also catering to “absentee voters” as well by taking online orders.
